Hej from Denmark!
I have been a bit lax in updating my blog, sorry everyone! I guess the biggest update is that I recently returned from my short study tour with my core course, Medical Practice and Policy. We went to the mainland (Jutland) and attended a few different lectures about the health care system here as well as explored a castle (Sønderborg Slot), visited this awesome science museum (such a nerd I know), and were sadly unable to attend a handball game that we were scheduled to see. Instead, we went go-carting, which was also fun but rendered my neck immobile the next day from whiplash, serves me right, I suppose for whipping around the corners as I did... A few other fun adventures from the trip included taking a ferry from one island to another, riding segways and lifting a car at the science museum, and seeing the beautiful Danish countryside. It was a lot of fun getting to know more people from DIS, and we had some incredible Danish food on the trip, all very worthwhile.
So, what else have I been up to in the past three weeks? I have been spending time with my visiting family, Jens and Anni, and they have been so wonderful. They seriously have become my home away from home and we have shared some very hyggeligt (the Danish phrase roughly translated into "cozy") visits, they are teaching me to cook! We also will be traveling to Felster, an island where Anni grew up, in the Spring. I also have been working on my Danish, a difficult feat, attending class, going out occasionally (the nightlife here is incredible), and continuing to explore the city. I have yet to see the Little Mermaid statue, that is next on my list. I did, however, take a train to Helsingor, on the northern tip of Zealand, where I saw the Kronborg castle. I was proud of myself because I figured out the train, found the castle, and ventured outside of my comfort zone all on my own-- I felt so independent! I will be posting pictures once my computer allows it, unfortunately technology is not my friend right now and I am having to use the school computers until mine is fixed. All in all, I am beginning to feel much more at home here in Denmark and cannot wait to see what the next few months will bring. Coming up on the agenda is a weekend trip to Stockholm with some friends and perhaps a trip to Norway, we shall see!

  3. Ok, now that I figured out how to set up an acct so I can comment, I went back and read your recent blogs -how neat for you to be able to do all that you are and seeing new places with new friends! My parents had Dansk teak furniture growing up so I've always liked the clean designs of that and b/c of that, have wanted to someday go to Denmark. I'll look forward to reading more about your adventures! Diane
